Trump memecoin investors lost $3.8 billion, analysis finds

Crypto analytics company Nansen reveals that almost 1 million individuals have collectively lost $3.8 billion due to investments in President Donald Trump’s memecoin, $TRUMP. The information was reported by The New York Times, stating that Nansen’s findings came from public blockchain transactions. These transactions indicated that by the end of June, 988,905 accounts had experienced losses related to the memecoin. Approximately two-thirds of the people purchasing $TRUMP invested in it. On Sunday, the value of $TRUMP was $1.69, a near 98% decrease from its peak of $75.35. Trump introduced the memecoin just three days prior to his inauguration in 2025. He had previously established a crypto company, World Liberty Financial, in collaboration with his children. The value of the $WLFI coin has decreased substantially. In a recent financial statement, it was disclosed that the president earned $636 million from the $TRUMP memecoin, which constituted approximately half of the $1.4 billion he gained from the crypto industry in the previous year. During the Trump presidency, the Securities and Exchange Commission decided not to regulate memecoins as securities and ceased pursuing legal action against crypto firms. A spokesperson for the White House stated to the New York Times, “President Trump is delighted to have turned the United States into the global leader in cryptocurrency.”
