July 03, 2026 16:52Low-pressure system over Bay of Bengal to bring heavy rain in south Bengal: IMD
“A low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal will bring heavy to very heavy rainfall to some districts of south Bengal till July 6, potentially causing waterlogging in low-lying areas in the region,” the IMD said on Friday (July 3, 2026).
It said that very heavy rain is very likely over South 24 Parganas, Purba and Paschim Medinipur, Jhargram, Purulia, Bankura and Howrah districts on July 5.
“The low pressure system over northwest Bay of Bengal, which is likely to get more marked during the next two days, will bring heavy rain in most districts of south Bengal,” the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
The IMD cautioned of possible waterlogging in low-lying areas owing to the possible heavy rains and thunderstorms. After a few days of respite from heavy downpour that affected north Bengal over the past week, heavy rain is once again likely from July 7 in the region.
The IMD said heavy rain may occur in all the north Bengal districts, including Darjeeling and Kalimpong, till July 9. – PTI

After a video of a section of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway caving in went viral, NHAI has suspended the team leader of the authority engineer and the project manager of the contractor even as it said the cave-in was due to water stagnation following rains.

“A road surface cave-in observed on the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor on July 1, 2026 was the result of localised water stagnation following rainfall the previous night, coupled with constraints in commissioning the permanent cross-drainage system at the location,” NHAI said.
“NHAI regrets the inconvenience caused to NH commuters due to the road surface cave-in at a location on the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor following rainfall. The section has been restored and opened for regular traffic movement,” it said in a post on X. – PTI
