SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal was allegedly attacked by a group of Nihangs at the Nanded SahibGurudwaraa in Maharashtra on Thursday, according to preliminary information. Badal, who was visiting the shrine along with his wife and SAD MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal, reportedly sustained injuries to his arm and shoulder after one of the Nihangs attacked him with a sword. Sources said four Nihangs were present at the spot, and Badal’s security personnel intervened and overpowered the attacker. The Nihangs have been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway.

A fresh clash broke out between protesters from Assam and Arunachal Pradesh at the Likabali entry point in Assam’s Dhemaji district on Thursday. Arunachal Pradesh Police fired three rounds in the air to disperse the mob. The incident took place on the second day of an indefinite economic blockade called by the Takam Mising Porin Kebang and other groups over the alleged firing that injured 12 people from Assam earlier this week. Protesters have blocked entry points to Arunachal Pradesh, allowing only emergency and school vehicles, and are demanding action against those responsible, an end to alleged encroachment on Assam land and an early resolution of the long-pending inter-state border dispute. A Singapore-flagged cargo ship, MV Nawata Bhum, lost control while navigating the Hooghly River and crashed into the riverbank near Noorpur Ferry Terminal in Diamond Harbour, South 24 Parganas. The 147-metre vessel was carrying containers from Malaysia’s Port Klang to Kolkata Port. The ship reportedly lost stability while negotiating a bend near Diamond Harbour, with a possible steering gear failure suspected to have caused the incident. The vessel came dangerously close to the main road, triggering panic among locals and prompting the crew to repeatedly sound its horn to warn people. No injuries were reported, and a major disaster was averted as no ferries or boats were stationed at the terminal when the ship struck the bank.

Last year’s Delhi Red Fort blast has been officially linked to Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), according to a UN Security Council report. The report said AQIS has grown into a regional terror group and now operates through small, decentralised cells supported by logistics and financial networks. It also warned that AQIS may be trying to set up cells in Bangladesh. The report said Al-Qaeda and ISIL have also continued efforts to develop chemical and biological weapons but have so far failed to overcome the technical challenges.

Operations at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport remained normal despite the statewide bandh called over the Cauvery water dispute. Passenger movement and transport services, including Ola, Uber, airport taxis and KSTDC cabs, continued without disruption. Tight security was deployed at the airport, with CISF and state police personnel maintaining surveillance.
