VOLthon raising money for East Tennessee Children’s Hospital

Article from:

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – Some students at the University of Tennessee are putting on their dancing shoes to benefit East Tennessee Children’s Hospital.

UT is hosting its VOLthon on Saturday. It’s a 12-hour dance marathon event that runs from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The event is one of over 300 across the country benefiting Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals through their dance marathon program.

This year is UT’s 30th anniversary, and over the last 30 years, the university has raised more than $2.4 million dollars for ETCH.

The student-run event is not just a dance marathon. It also includes many other activities to keep participants active throughout the day.

“There’s so much to do. There’s dancing, a silent disco, different fundraising pushes, Zumba, just anything to keep people active and engaged. There’s also service projects, and meet-and-greets with some of our miracle families” said Sydney Brooks, a family relations staff member and team captain for VOLthon.

The main event is not until this weekend, but VOLthon has already raised over $30,000 through their Days of Miracles fundraising program.

VOLthon members said that there are so many ways to get involved, whether that be registering for the event or donating online.

“We encourage you to reach out to people you know people your friends know, instead of maybe buying that coffee you donate the five dollars to VOLthon, just trying to get creative and raise the most money so that we can make a difference” said Brooks.

If you would like to support VOLthon and ETCH you can donate here.
