LILLEY: Toronto needs serious mayor to replace bat-flipping Chow

The city’s top leader must prioritize pressing issues or step aside to allow someone else to take charge at City Hall.

Mayor Olivia Chow needs to stop the theatrics—no more dancing, taco discussions, or playful calls to the Blue Jays—and focus on revitalizing this city. If she can’t rise to the occasion, she should make way for someone who can effectively lead. The same applies to the city council members as well.

Toronto is a significant city, ranking as the fourth most populous in North America, following Mexico City, New York, and Los Angeles. As Canada’s economic powerhouse and a global hub for various industries, from mining to film and finance to technology, Toronto deserves serious leadership capable of managing a world-class city.

While Chow might excel as a city ambassador or promoter, she lacks the necessary policies and managerial skills to govern effectively.

Former Mayor John Tory is reportedly contemplating a return to politics, expressing mixed feelings about running again. Some of his former supporters have shifted their backing to Brad Bradford, while others have issued an ultimatum: if Tory wants their support, he must take a strong stance on critical issues like homelessness.

What Tory should consider is stepping back from active politics and accepting a different appointment that suits his experience.

There’s an upcoming opportunity that would be ideal for someone with Tory’s background.
