According to a recent report, former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has been actively pursuing singer Katy Perry since their initial date earlier this summer. After a dinner at Montreal’s Le Violon restaurant in July, the two were spotted displaying affection in front of paparazzi and tourists in Santa Barbara, California.
Photos published by the Daily Mail on Saturday, reportedly taken last month, show Perry, 40, in a black one-piece swimsuit while Trudeau, 53, went shirtless in jeans as they cuddled and kissed aboard her 24-meter yacht, the Caravelle. An eyewitness recounted, “She pulled up her boat next to a small public whale-watching boat, and then they started making out. I didn’t realize who she was with until I saw the tattoo on the guy’s arm and immediately recognized it was Justin Trudeau.”
Following the viral photos, a source close to Perry shared with PEOPLE that the two share an “easy connection.” The insider noted, “When she first spent time with Justin, she wasn’t looking to date, but they kept in touch. They have many shared interests and plenty to talk about, but Katy was dealing with a lot and wasn’t ready to date at that time,” referring to her recent split from longtime partner Orlando Bloom in July. However, Trudeau has been “pursuing her since” their first meeting.
In addition, social media posts captured Trudeau enjoying Perry’s concert at Montreal’s Bell Centre with his 16-year-old daughter, Ella-Grace, where he was seen enthusiastically singing along to her 2013 hit, “Dark Horse.” The source added, “He even flew to California to see her during a tour break. They have an easy connection. She finds him attractive, and he’s been very respectful.”
