CRIME SCENE: Toronto man accused of assaulting parking enforcement officer

A 55-year-old Toronto man is accused of assaulting a Toronto Police parking enforcement officer in the east end.

Toronto Police said officers responded on March 10 at 1:31 p.m. to a call for a fail-to-remain personal injury collision in the Danforth Ave.-Dawes Rd. area.

It’s alleged that a parking enforcement officer was attempting to conduct an inspection of a displayed accessibility parking permit and the accused refused to comply with the inspection before driving away and striking the officer with his vehicle.

The accused fled the scene and was later found and arrested.

The enforcement officer was taken to hospital to be assessed for injuries.

Charlton B. James was charged with assaulting a peace officer with a weapon and failure to remain at an accident.

EXPLOSIVE SUBSTANCE FOUND IN HAMILTON

Police said streets in Hamilton were briefly closed on Monday during to an investigation into an explosive substance.

Hamilton Police said an explosive substance was found at 181 Jackson St. Police were directed to a storage locker in the basement of a property and officers contacted the emergency disposal unit.

Cops shut down Caroline St. to Hess St. and Hunter St. to Main St. until the substance was “handled” and the area was deemed safe. Roads were eventually re-opened.

TEEN DRIVERS CHARGED IN WATERLOO

Two teen drivers face multiple charges including stunt driving after allegedly racing through the streets of Waterloo.

Waterloo Regional Police said they received a report on Sunday at 5 p.m. of two vehicles racing in the University St. W.-Albert St. area.

Officers located two vehicles, a black BMW and a red BMW, on King St. N., where they were observed travelling at high rates of speed and impeding traffic. Police said there was a large volume of pedestrian and vehicular traffic in the area at the time.

Police conducted traffic stops of both vehicles. The drivers, an 18-year-old from Scarborough and a 19-year-old from Grey County, were charged, their licences were suspended for 30 days and the vehicles were impounded for 14 days.
