Cementing Michigan’s Leadership in National Security, Advanced Manufacturing and Innovation

Michigan has a long history of contributing to U.S. national and homeland security efforts, going back to our role as the “Arsenal of Democracy” when Michigan workers built the tanks that powered the Allies to victory in WWII. Today, Michigan continues to excel at the high-precision, advanced manufacturing needed to produce cutting-edge technologies, equipment, and ground vehicles that keep our servicemembers safe around the world.

U.S. Sen. Gary Peters visits the Detroit Economic Club to discuss his ongoing efforts to expand Michigan’s role in U.S. military readiness, defense manufacturing and border security efforts. Sen. Peters is the current Ranking Member and former Chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, and a member of the Armed Services and Appropriations Committees.

Sen. Peters also discusses his work to strengthen U.S. cybersecurity preparedness; support the development of safe, responsible artificial intelligence; address the national security and economic threats posed by importing Chinese-controlled vehicles; and secure additional investments to cement the future of Selfridge Air National Guard Base.

Detroit PBS and One Detroit partner with the Detroit Economic Club to present this live conversation virtually.
