Dunklin County, Mo. senior nutrition centers race to collect signatures to avoid closure

DUNKLIN COUNTY, Mo. (KFVS) – Several senior nutrition centers in Dunklin County are racing to collect 900 signatures by Monday on a petition to put a sales tax measure on the April ballot in their last chance to avoid closing by summer. The petition would add one-eighth of a cent to the county sales tax to fund the centers. Without it, the Malden and Campbell centers could shut down by June.Director Pam White said the center provides something seniors can’t get anywhere else.“Our mission isn’t all about feeding. It’s about congregation for the seniors. They need to be out and around other seniors so they can socialize,” White said. “We’ve had several people that would go without a nutritious meal if we were to close and we weren’t there to provide that for them.”Residents can sign the petition at the Malden Nutrition Center from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., or volunteer to collect signatures. The deadline is Monday.Copyright 2025 KFVS.
