Nav Canada has reduced the number of scheduled incoming flights to Vancouver International Airport on Monday afternoon.

Arrival delays began at around 3 p.m. and continued into the evening with roughly half of incoming flights arriving on time.

A YVR spokesperson said “air travel in the region has experienced some delays due to resource constraints at Nav Canada, Canada’s air navigation service provider.

“We recommend that passengers check their incoming flight status with their airline before coming to the airport.”

Nav Canada spokesperson Maryam Amini said a traffic management initiative was implemented at Vancouver International Airport on Monday “due to system capacity constraints, including traffic volume, airport managed construction, and staffing constraints.”

“One of the tools used to safely manage airport demand is the implementation of a traffic management initiative. While we strive to minimize their use, TMIs are essential to preventing congestion and ensuring the efficient and safe use of airspace and airport infrastructure,” Amini said.
