Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee was suspended from the Lok Sabha for the remainder of the Monsoon Session on Wednesday after two women MPs complained to Speaker Om Birla that he had used abusive language against them.
Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI) members Satabdi Roy and Mitali Bagh, who were with the TMC earlier, were the MPs who complained, according to sources.
Following the suspension, Banerjee was barred from entering the House premises for the rest of the session. He was later taken to meet the Speaker by fellow TMC MPs for a hearing.
In May, then TMC MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar had written to Speaker Om Birla, seeking permission to lodge a formal complaint against Kalyan Banerjee, alleging that he had repeatedly verbally abused her inside Parliament.
