    IMD forecast light to moderate rain in several areas of Jharkhand

    The IMD today forecast light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds across Jharkhand over the next four days. The weather office issued a ‘yellow’ alert for isolated thunderstorms and lightning across all 24 districts from July 6 to 9.

    Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds of 40-50 kmph is likely across the state during this period, the IMD said.

    According to the IMD bulletin, Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra, Hazaribag, Latehar, Lohardaga, Gumla and Ranchi districts are likely to receive heavy rainfall on Monday (July 6, 2026).

    Rain lashes parts of Delhi, brings relief from sultry conditions

    Moderate rainfall lashed several parts of Delhi, bringing much-needed relief from the humid weather, with Chhatarpur recording the highest precipitation of 49 mm till 2.30 p.m., according to official data.

    The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said Chhatarpur received 49 mm of rainfall, followed by Gurugram at 35 mm, Mehrauli at 18 mm, Greater Noida at 17 mm, Najafgarh at 8 mm and Janakpuri at 7 mm till 2.30 p.m.

    Showers in many parts of Rajasthan

    Several parts of Rajasthan received light to moderate showers in the past 24 hours, with Salumbar in Udaipur district recording the highest rainfall at 6 cm, the weather department said on Sunday (July 5).

    In eastern Rajasthan, Sangod in Kota recorded 5 cm rainfall, while Chauth Ka Barwara in Sawai Madhopur, Bakani and Jhalrapatan in Jhalawar district received 3 cm each.

    Aspur in Dungarpur, Pipalda in Kota, Jagpur in Banswara, and Dungla in Chittorgarh recorded 2 cm of rainfall each, while Arnod in Pratapgarh, Pindwara in Sirohi, Bagidora in Banswara, and Aklera in Jhalawar received 1 cm of rainfall.

    Heavy rain halts Mumbai airport runway ops for an hour; flights hit

    Heavy rains and gusty winds forced Mumbai international airport authorities to suspend all runway operations for an hour on Sunday (July 5), severely disrupting flight services at the facility.

    The closure at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, which lasted from 10.17 a.m. to 11.17 a.m., affected several inbound and outbound flights, leaving passengers to grapple with an average departure delay of 75 minutes and arrivals by at least 28 minutes.

    According to the live flight-tracking website, flightradar24.com, 87% of the flights were delayed at the airport, while another 62% arrived late.

    Low pressure in Bay of Bengal intensifies into depression; all Odisha districts on alert

    All Odisha districts have been put on high alert as a well-marked low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal intensified into a depression that could bring heavy showers in the coastal State over the next few days.

    The India Meteorological Department said the low-pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of North Odisha-West Bengal coasts concentrated into a depression and lay centred 50 km south-southeast of Balasore and south-southwest of Digha. It said the system is very likely to cross the north Odisha coast between Chandbali and Digha over the next day.

    Torrential rains batter Thane; two injured as part of building collapses

    Relentless rains over the past 48 hours crippled life across Thane district in Maharashtra, causing waterlogging, tree falls and a gallery collapse at a building in which two persons were injured, officials said on Sunday (July 5).

    The Thane Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) received 93 complaints during the last 24 hours, including 24 instances of tree falls, 22 branch falls, 24 of waterlogging, 8 compound wall collapses, and one landslide incident, they said.

    Several low-lying areas in Thane city, Kalyan, Bhiwandi, Ulhasnagar, Dombivli, and Navi Mumbai were flooded, leaving numerous residents marooned, they said.

    With continuous rainfall in Uttarakhand bringing in landslides and rising water levels, authorities on Sunday intensified monitoring and safety measures along the Shri Kedarnath Yatra route in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district to ensure the safe movement of pilgrims.

    Disaster Management personnel have been deployed at all vulnerable locations along the trekking route, while the District Disaster Management Control Room is maintaining round-the-clock surveillance of the entire Yatra route.
