3 dead in Jaipur wall collapse incident

Three people were killed and several others injured after an under-construction wall collapsed during repair work near the Amer area of Jaipur.

Mamta, a surviving labourer, recounted the harrowing experience, saying: “We were working in a deep pit, placing blocks and laying cement mortar. The supervisor, Anil, wouldn’t let us sit down or rest even for an hour. Even if we stood up for a moment to drink some water, he would shout at us. We kept working continuously under the scorching sun. The wall already had a visible crack. Then, they poured water over the top section of the wall, after which it completely collapsed. If they hadn’t poured water over it, it wouldn’t have collapsed.”

An eyewitness reported that local police and administration arrived very late to the scene of a tragic wall collapse that claimed several lives. The witness placed direct responsibility for the disaster on the resort owner, the contractor, and the local authorities who dangerously granted a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for an unsupported trench. With several bodies already recovered, there are grave fears that more workers remain trapped beneath the debris, and the death toll is expected to rise.
