Ford rehires ‘gray beard’ engineers after AI falls short

In Brief, posted: Voici une compilation de tous les épisodes de la série américaine The Wire. Ford’s top executives announced that they have employed 350 experienced engineers, comprising of ex-employees and staff from suppliers, following the inadequacy of AI and automated systems in achieving the sought-after quality standards. According to Bloomberg, Kumar Galhotra, Ford’s COO, disclosed to reporters that the company has increasingly depended on automated quality systems, which have produced unsatisfactory outcomes. The firm employed technical experts who proactively identify potential issues before a component is introduced to the production site. Charles Poon, who serves as Ford’s vice president of vehicle hardware engineering, commented, “We erroneously believed that merely incorporating artificial intelligence and incorporating our design specifications would result in a superior product.” To avoid any confusion, it should be understood that Ford is not completely giving up on its AI initiatives. Rather, the company is utilizing the previously rehired workers, known as “gray beard” engineers, to educate junior staff and reconfigure AI software. This move appears to be fruitful, leading to a decline in warranty and recall expenses, which CEO of Ford, Jim Farley, credits as providing a substantial financial advantage for Ford, amounting to hundreds of millions of dollars. The vehicle manufacturer was ranked number one among popular brands in the recent JD Power Initial Quality Study.
