It wouldn’t make much sense to repeat a heretical view on the significance of the Golden Globes, as for years now, some glaring mistakes in the institution have been repeatedly pointed out. However, we will attempt it again because this year there are such blatant blunders that it’s impossible to overlook them. As always, the division of films into two major categories, drama and comedy or musical, is where you can see many absurdities. One of these, this year, concerns Demi Moore’s award for the film “The Substance: The Elixir of Youth” by Caroline Fargeat. Moore was awarded in the category of Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical, making her one of the favorites for the Oscars next March. This supposedly philosophical splatter, which is supposed to critically comment on the addiction to fame and its vanity, may have divided its audience into staunch enemies and fervent supporters, but you can’t call it a comedy by any means, and let’s just leave the musical aspect aside. As for Moore’s award, it seems to have more to do with the fact that the 62-year-old American actress has never managed to win a decent award than with anything else—let alone her performance in “Substance.” Moore’s award somehow aligns with Sebastian Stan’s award for the film “A Different Man,” in which he plays an aspiring actor who undergoes a radical medical procedure to drastically transform his appearance; only his new “dream” face will quickly give way to…
